Hag Tapers - Mullein Candles

$14.00

These “hag tapers” are not like most candles - the entire inside is a wick made from mullein staves! Mullein, or Verbascum Thapsus, has been a historically relevant plant for centuries. Many cultures regard it as an herb of protection, one that can ward off evils, consecrate sacred tools and is burned as the backbone to strengthen spellwork. Even the plant’s appearance, with tall stalks as silhouettes, are like sentries guarding their lot. Dried and dipped, they are able to be burned. Candles like these can be used during Samhain for hedge-crossing rituals. The ashes are incredibly sacred and should be disposed of with care, thought and intention.

The staves are sustainably harvested in Colorado and hand dipped in beeswax. They measure an average of 7”, with variances of an inch. They will burn brightly for 30 minutes to an hour (see video below).
